Try Before you Buy - Renting hybrid and electric cars
Considering that today’s new cars sometimes cost as much as our houses, it’s a good idea to rent a model before making the decision to purchase. But where can you rent a hybrid or electric? Ecobusiness Links has a list of companies where you can do just that.

If you have the extra money that would be good — can you lease greener cars or just buy?

I know you can lease hybrids, and I expect the mainstream companies to lease their electric models. I’m not sure about companies like Zap or GEM.
Curiously, the very first electric car put out by a major manufacturer (GM) was lease-only. Mostly so they could round them all up and get rid of them at first opportunity … which they did. It’s too bad too because, at least I think, many people will overlook the Volt because of the company’s electric history.
Anyway, another story for another day. :)
