Zap - Youngman Partnership to mass produce electric SUV
From ChinaDaily.com:
Youngman Automotive Group, China’s leading luxury coach and high-quality commercial truck manufacturer, has signed a joint venture agreement with US electric car pioneer ZAP to manufacture, market and distribute electric and hybrid vehicles for the passenger car, truck and bus markets.
The new joint venture company will also focus on the development and manufacture of electric charging infrastructure. The deal includes the manufacture of buses, trucks and passenger vehicles, including the Zap-X crossover SUV.
As big of a fan of some of the new hybrids as I am, I know electric cars have benefits above and beyond hybrids. Not just related to their use either, but the potential of banking energy and using them as an alternative energy source during crisis periods. It will be very interesting to see what comes from this venture, with China’s Youngman Automotive putting $44 Million into new research and development.

Many have expressed interest in the ZAP-X and plans to make electric cars, but I would point out that ZAP has one of the only cost-effective electric cars and trucks on the market today called the XEBRA with over 30 dealers in different parts of the US. For a little over $10,000 you can start driving electric today.

You’re right, Alex. Both ZAP and GEM are making affordable electric cars.
